Your Guide to Nail Guns

The nail gun is used by home owners for remodeling and craft projects. It is also used by the construction professional on the job site. The gun automatically sinks the nail into the material using compressed air pressure. It saves labor because you do not have a man hammering nails for hours and it saves precious time because the nail gun is faster than humans.

There are two types of nail guns. The first is called the coil nail gun, this nail gun has a long string of nails and they are inserted into the round shaped holder of the gun. The coil holds a maximum of 350 nails. The second type is called the stick nail gun. Stick nail guns are made in a flat row and are attached to each other by a thin layer of glue that releases the nails as the gun is being used.

Types of Nail Guns

The roofing nail gun is used for nailing shingles to the roof.

The framing nail gun is large and uses larger nails. It is mostly used for framing houses, and nailing wood stock together. It is the most powerful nail gun you can use.

The brad nail gun shoots tiny nails called brads. It is used for small projects like nailing a picture frame together and different craft nailing.

The finish nail gun uses the longer nails and is mostly used for nailing house trim or crown molding.

Each nail gun has a specific purpose and all of them use different sized nails.

Nail Gun Features

The Nail Adjustment is a feature that allows the user to change the size of the nail that the gun will accept. This is a must have feature if you do a lot of wood working or construction type projects.

The depth adjustment allows you to adjust the depth of how far you want the nail to go into the material that you are nailing. This is a great feature allowing you to do finish wood work and craft projects.

The Jam feature keeps the nail gun for jamming. Without it you will be digging nails out of the gun constantly through the day. The swivel connector is located at the bottom of your nail gun. It is where the air hose is attached to the nail gun, it swivels as you are using it keeping the hose out of your way.

A large trigger is also a fine feature to have, it enable the user to have room to get your fingers in there even in the winter time with gloves on your hands. Some wood workers wear gloves as a safety precaution when using a nail gun.

Lastly, look for a nail gun that comes with a hard carrying case. This is convenient and helps to protect your tool.

Now that you know about all the features think about what type of nail gun that you will use most often and what size nails will work for the projects that you are working on. Choose the features that you like and want and you will soon be out in your own work shop working with your new nail gun.
